District 9

Who would have ever guessed it, but District 9 is my top movie of the ten nominated movies for Best Picture. I LOVED this movie. I knew thirty minutes in that I really liked the movie, I was just hoping that the end wouldn’t ruin it for me as so often happens. Total sci-fi, not my type of movie, just awesome. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!

Precious and Up in the Air are tied for second. The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Bastards are next followed by A Serious Man (ending pissed me off, but not enough to ruin the movie), An Education (ending ruined this for me), and well the last three, I can’t even rate. What should have been nominated? The Hangover. Just my opinion. Actually, my opinion: let’s just go back to five nominated movies for Best Picture.

  1. From Shea:

Really?? I mean, I thought District 9 was a great, well-done movie. Well acted, great story, great special effects. But somehow all of that just couldn't keep me AWAKE during that movie. I thought it was soooo slow. I think it was the documentary-like quality. I don't like documentaries either. I want to, because many are very good and compelling. But when I watch a movie, I want to be entertained.

Of course, I saw NOT ONE of the other nominated movies. NOT ONE. So I can't really judge.

Honestly, I don't think this was a great year for movies. Avatar was fine, not top ten, but for what it was, fine. It just drove me crazy that the lead actor's accent kept coming through during the movie. Couldn't the "King of the World" do a retake or something so we had one clear accent throughout the movie? I would recommend watching Precious, if you want to be freaking depressed. Seriously, an incredible movie and quite frankly, if Sandra Bullock gets an Oscar, I think Maria Carey deserves one too.
