Something to be happy about…

I received a package and note from a friend I’ve known for years.  It was a total surprise and really nice after driving home most of Saturday.

The last line of her note stated: I hope you always have reasons to be happy.

It was a random comment, but one that made me stop and think about all the reasons I have to smile and be happy.  So for today, here they are:

  • A package containing a Terra Cotta warrior, probably my favorite exhibit I’ve ever seen
  • a note that was beyond sweet
  • lessons at the bird sanctuary, so sad that summer camps have to interrupt them
  • a three year old who wants to start keeping his own nature journal
  • Baskin Robbins Pralines and Cream
  • the poetry of Douglass Florian, this month Handsprings
  • thinking about the amazing moon on Saturday evening about an hour into Texas, I didn’t even realize it was a big deal until the next day
  • a boy who is loyal to his team, he may be a front runner when it comes to games he doesn’t care about, but he is loyal to one team always
  • friends I’ve met online
  • text messages that make me laugh
  • a friend I’ve grown to really enjoy even though we only hung out because our boys were friends
  • the thought that swim lessons for Goose are ending this month, after five years
  • Baby Hulk reading a Magic Tree House book to himself
  • No David babbling nonstop to himself, you never really know what it’s about, but it’s always loud and cute
  • Baby Z biting her father on the neck and screaming each time he spoke to her in the car on the ride home from Alabama, (he was not happy nor did he smile)
  • family walks
  • five days where I haven’t yelled at anyone, everybody is happy about this one
  • my statues of Mary, now if I could find one for my kitchen window

  1. From Jenn:

This is a good exercise. I think I might play along today at some point. I started keeping a gratitude journal based on 1,000 Gifts (which I have not read yet!) but I think that’s the concept. I usually just write one thing at a time, but I go days forgetting about it. I need to put it in a more prevalent spot in the house I guess.

    Anyway, cheers to some happiness!

  2. From Nicole:

I have a journal too. Sitting on my night stand. 🙂 I have 6 things written in it. I love journals, all kinds of pretty paper, but the reality is when I feel like writing, I’m on the computer. Might start keeping a weekly “happiness” post. That way I don’t forget to count my blessings. Hmmm, maybe we need a book study?
