Come Holy Spirit

Mo oldest son was confirmed on Wednesday evening at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.  (Calling him Squirt right now just seems silly!)

The mass was beautiful.  When the Bishop asked the candidates to name the gifts of the Spirit, Squirt raised his hand to answer!

He selected my mom to be his sponsor, which I thought was really sweet.  It’s who he has wanted all year, and it finally worked out.  (Long story.)

The boys were really proud to watch their brother get confirmed or as Goose calls it “confirmated”.  Baby Z, well, she talked more than she ever has in her entire life.

First thing Squirt said after being sealed was “I am offically my sister’s Godfather.”  Music to my ears.

At the end of the mass, Father Troy spoke to us and reminded us as parents that we promised this both at our wedding and the baptism of our child.  That meant a lot to me.  We did it.  We really did it.  The grace from those sacraments helped see us through so much up to last night.  And now we have the grace from this sacrament to see us through so much more.  The gifts of Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, piety, fortitude and awe and wonder.  Not bad gifts to have at all.  I think I’ll start remembering I have those same gifts.

Congratulations to our son.  May God always bless you.  May you be filled with love for Christ.  May the Holy Spirit guide all that you do.  And Mary, continue watching over my boy.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

  1. From Nikki Andrews:

This reminds me of my Confirmation and how on that day, I felt like I was the only person in the church. It was just me and the Lord. I couldn’t see anyone else. It was a special day and one I will always remember. ALL of my family got along that day and even took pictures together. Congrats Squirt!! We are all proud of you.

  2. From Nicole:

Thanks! I like hearing that. I remember mine too, but don’t have that beautiful memory like you. My patron was Elizabeth Ann Seton. It’s such a big day, and I hope it stays with him forever.

  3. From Jenn:

Congratulations to you and your family! That cake is perfect by the way.

  4. From Nicole:

Thanks! It took quite a bit of doing, for reasons will tell you later, but it’s done! And I’m grateful.
